My day typically starts in the early morning with taking pictures of your wedding lengha, all of your accessories and the hair ‘n makeup artists as they finish their final touches to their masterpiece, you – the bride! As soon as you are ready, its time to create some of your bride’s and family portraits. The same goes for the Groom. well…, minus the hair and makeup! Which allows the groom his beauty sleep and for him to start his preparations later than the bride. However, I will have an associate photographer to ensure simultaneous coverage if needed. From tying of the turban to sehra and kalgi set up, it all gets captured as it takes place. Creating images of your wedding outfits, accessories, the Bride’s portraits, the Groom’s portraits, and family portraits, are all crucial components of my coverage.
After a fun-filled morning, excitement builds up as your extended families and guests meet and greet outside the ceremony hall at the gurdwara. I capture all those laughs and hugs at the milni. After some refreshments, the Groom’s entrance to the main hall of the gurdwara marks the start of your wedding ceremony.
I capture the Groom’s entrance along with candid portraits of him sitting and awaiting the formation of the congregation. Shortly after, the officiant instructs the Groom to move to the front center of the isle. Then comes the moment that everyone awaited all morning for, but perhaps not as much as the Groom – the Bride’s entrance.
After the religious part of the ceremony, your parents give you blessings as a newly married couple. All of your guests also take turns to come to give you their blessings and take a souvenir photo with you two. Isn’t it a beautiful custom that you get to document all your guests as they honored your invitation to be part of your wedding?
It is early afternoon now, a perfect time to drive to a location and create portraits as newlyweds. For these portraits, I get to put my journalistic approach to a pause and unleash my creativity to make surreal portraits of you two. Many couples have a wedding party of several Bride’s maids and Groom’s men. If you planned for them to come along, they probably have had a few shots by now and would be ecstatic to take fun images with you two.
After your wedding photo shoot, I follow you to the Bride’s residence for the doli. Which commences with fun-filled action as the Bride’s friends block the Groom’s entrance. He must pay his dues and comply with their demands. Imagine all the crazy moments of excitement on camera! Soon after, everyone realizes that the doli is a bitter-sweet time of the wedding day. This is the time when the Bride leaves her parents’ residence as a married woman. There can be many tears of joy as the Bride says goodbye to her family and friends. Here, my journalistic approach is on at full speed to capture all those raw emotions.
The atmosphere quickly changes as the Bride and Groom’s caravan arrives at the Groom’s residence. At this time the Groom’s residence is bustling with his extended family as the mother of the Groom welcomes the newlyweds with the pani-varna ceremony. This is a time full of laughter, fun rituals, and celebratory dancing.
What a fun, intense, and emotionally charged day so far! Are you ready to keep going all the way to 2 am? Believe it or not, very few do so! However, many are choosing to set the reception for the next evening to make the grand entrance fully recharged with a new wardrobe and a new look. This also allows time for me to set a mini-shoot with you two before your grand entrance. Thereafter, I carry on with your reception program until midnight. This ensures capturing of family and friends dancing in the celebration of your wedding.
